SAM SABOL
First things first, you have to know:

I’m one of those people who lives to eat.

I plan trips around food markets and dining destinations making reservations at highly acclaimed restaurants even before booking a place to stay. I walk into specialty food stores just to speak with the owners about their unique products and experiences. And yes, I take pictures of a lot of the food I eat and post everything on Instagram.
I grew up in a household of capable cooks and enthusiastic eaters who hosted large dinners and parties in our home. I only started cooking when I moved into my first apartment off campus at American University where a normal night might look like three different kinds of enchiladas and guacamole to serve an army (of hungry college students.) After graduating with mind-stimulating degrees in political science and literature, I didn’t know what would come next. Yay liberal arts! I moved from D.C. to Chicago, became a nanny for a few kind families and fell in love.

Cooking for my new found love and I became my creative outlet, my side job, my raison d’etre. We moved to his hometown of Brooklyn and my love for cooking grew and grew. I made extravagant dinners for the two of us feeding our love. As time went on, I went through a few different jobs, cooking all the while, and feeling not so great. I was diagnosed around that time with a chronic kidney disease. While I wanted to continue to feed my partner chicken pot pie, I had to alter the decadent and oh-so-delicious recipe to make sure I wasn't feeling oh-so-awful the next day.

That's where A Twist of Plate was born.

I was looking for more confidence in the kitchen and information on how to nourish and fuel my particular body so I enrolled in the Natural Gourmet Institute's Chef's Training Program where I learned the ins and outs of health-supportive cooking and made friends from all over the world. (Shout out to CTP 268!) From there, I interned with cookbook author, teacher and all around traditional food savant, Myra Kornfeld. These two combined experiences set me forth on the path to private teaching. And baby, there’s no turning back now. I am a member of the New York Women's Culinary Alliance and The Wing. When I'm not planning my next meal, I love to travel (next up: India for my best friend's wedding), give restaurant recommendations, make lists, read fiction (I'm on an Anne Patchett kick) and listen to podcasts (huge fan of Beautiful Anonymous from comedian Chris Gethard.) I'd love to cook with you. So, what you waiting for? Let's get into your kitchen!
